The table is set with silverware that is up for grabs on Sunday after an action-packed Saturday of the 2025 RugbyTown 7s.
For the first time in over a decade, the U.S. Armed Forces Champion was not crowned on Day 2 of the RugbyTown 7s. With the new format that the tournament deployed in 2025, the U.S. Armed Forces final will now become the penultimate match of the tournament and take place before the RugbyTown 7s Cup Final on Sunday evening. While a U.S. Armed Forces Champion was not crowned on Saturday, the picture of the teams in contention for the title became clearer after the second day of the tournament.
The Department of the Air Force used a 33-0 victory over All-Coast Guard in Saturday’s opening match of the tournament and a narrow 14-12 win over All Navy Rugby to finish pool play with an unblemished 4-0 record. They’ve put themselves in a solid position to secure their first-ever U.S. Armed Forces title, but they’ll have to go through the 10-time champions, All-Army, in Sunday’s title. All-Army started the tournament with a loss to Department of the Air Force, but strung together three straight victories over All Navy, All-Coast Guard, and All-Marine Rugby 7s to finish in second place in Pool M and punch their ticket to the U.S. Armed Forces title match that will take place Sunday at 4:15 PM MT. All Navy Rugby and All-Marine Rugby 7s will slug it out for third place in the Military Consolation Final that will kick off at 1:50 PM.
Four teams remain in contention for the RugbyTown 7s Cup after Saturday. NAV 7s was the first team to punch their ticket to the Cup Semifinals when they narrowly defeated the red-hot R10s Selects by a final score of 10-12. Heat Rugby used a complete effort to defeat a pesky SoCal Griffins team that always finds itself in contention at the RugbyTown 7s by a final score of 19-7. Tsunami Rugby, the 2024 tournament runner-ups, handed the Ramblin’ Jesters their first loss of the tournament in the Cup Quarterfinals to the tune of a 33-12 final score to set up a semifinal match with Heat Rugby. In the final match of the Cup Quarterfinals, it was the Scimitar Storm that defeated the USA Falcons 26-12 to earn a spot in the Cup Semifinals in their first appearance at the RugbyTown 7s. They will square off against NAV 7s for a shot at the Cup Final.
In the Plate Tier, the SoCal Griffins will take on the Ramblin’ Jesters, and the R10 Selects will play the USA Falcons.
The Bowl and Shield tiers are also full of teams playing some solid rugby heading into Sunday. In the Bowl Semifinals, the 2024 RugbyTown 7s Cup champions Denver 7s Selects will take on Assassins 7s, and Casanovas – last year’s fourth place finishers – will take on Wild Dogs. The Shield semifinals will feature N.A. Lions and Gorilla Rugby out of Texas, while the other side of the bracket consists of the NCR Griffins and Apache 7s.
