How The Tournament Works

Origins of the Tournament

RT7s started in 2012 between rugby programs in the US Armed Forces at Infinity Park in Glendale, CO.

Year after year, the amount of participants grew and soon after, teams from around the world travel to Glendale, CO to compete in one of the arguably best 7s rugby tournaments in the world.

Meet @ Infinity Park in Glendale, CO

We’re excited to share a significant update to this year’s tournament format: the Armed Forces teams will now compete exclusively for the Armed Forces Championship and will not advance into the main tournament bracket. In addition, a Consolation Match has been added to round out their competition. This new format brings several key advantages. It creates five total pools—one Armed Forces pool with five teams and four additional pools with four teams each—resulting in a more balanced and competitive structure across the board. Most importantly, it maintains the prestige and spotlight of the Armed Forces Championship, allowing these teams to shine in a dedicated bracket.

Pool Stage

Friday thru 1st Half Saturday

All teams are grouped into one of five pools — Pool A, B, C, D, or M. You can find this year’s team groupings in the “Teams” section of the RugbyTown USA app. The first half of the tournament features Pool Play, where each team competes within its assigned group. Performance in this stage determines seeding and progression into the Knockout Stages. From there, teams battle it out through elimination rounds until the Cup Champion is crowned.

The tournament’s not over for Pool A-D teams outside the Cup Tier! 3rd and 4th teams from each pool advance Shield, Bowl, Plate, and Third Place Tiers— where pride, silverware, and Pitch Cred are all on the line!

Cup Tier

The first and second place teams from Pools A-D will advance to the Cup Tier Playoffs, where they’ll compete for the $10,000 purse. The winner of the Cup Tier will be crowned the Cup Champion and overall tournament winner. The Cup Final is the 57th and final match of the tournament, closing out the action on Day 3.
